Low Carbon, High Impact
Calgary District Heating Inc. uses high efficiency industrial boilers and a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit to generate thermal energy, in the form of hot water, to heat Calgarians. This hot water is distributed to buildings through a network of insulated underground pipes, called a Thermal Distribution System (TDS) to heat exchangers that transfer energy from our system to connected buildings.
The heated water is then returned back to our District Energy Centre where it is reheated and recirculated back to our customers. Our closed-loop TDS reuses all the water used to heat connected buildings 24/7/365.
When connected to our DES, building owners and/or operators no longer need to maintain and operate a traditional stand-alone boiler plant, or require a traditional boiler room for newly constructed buildings.

Calgary District Heating is available to both new and existing buildings and can provide longer-term operational and economic impact to buildings’ owners and operators. To date, approximately 50% of all connected buildings are newly constructed, and 50% are existing buildings that have been retrofitted to utilize district energy. And as we transition to meet the needs or your low-to-no carbon future for heating, we’re confident district energy can play a key role in your business’ journey to net-zero.
